Tongariro National Park

World Heritage-listed Tongariro is New Zealand’s first national park and the fourth in the whole world. Although the park’s claim to fame is its volcanic activity, the park also has its fair share of waterfalls, lakes, and other interesting features, best seen via one of the park’s several walking tracks. The area has heritage-listed buildings from its interesting history as well, and the local Maori have maintained strong spiritual ties to the land here.
